Dental Surgery Technician (DST)

The Dental Surgery Technician (DST) program prepares students to assist dentists in treating patients and performing dental procedures. Dental technicians play an essential role in oral healthcare by ensuring that dental treatments are safe, efficient, and comfortable for patients.

Students will learn about different dental procedures such as tooth extractions, fillings, and cleaning. They will be trained on how to prepare dental tools, sterilize equipment, and assist dentists during treatments. The course also covers dental anatomy, oral diseases, and ways to prevent common dental problems.

A major part of the training involves working in dental clinics to gain hands-on experience. Students will learn how to take dental impressions, mix filling materials, and help in making dentures and crowns. They will also study infection control to ensure patient safety.

Good communication skills are important in this profession. Students will be trained on how to comfort anxious patients, explain dental procedures, and give advice on oral hygiene. They will also learn how to manage patient records and schedule appointments.

As dental technology advances, students will be introduced to modern tools and digital techniques used in dentistry. This includes learning about laser treatments, 3D imaging, and advanced prosthetic materials for tooth replacement.

Graduates of this program can work in dental hospitals, private clinics, and dental laboratories. They can also further their education to become dental hygienists or dental surgeons.
